What is & How to use PowerPivot (Excel Add-in)
Hello Friends! Do you know what is PowerPivot? I think many of us only know what is pivot table. Let me make you clear that PowerPivot is an upgraded tool over pivot table in MS Excel. It's an easy to use and very powerful tool to design or prepare your data into pleasing looks.
Previously, we used Pivot table by going into Insert tab and clicking on Pivot Table option and From Table/Range. You can see the screenshot below:
But, to use PowerPivot, we have to enable PowerPivot Add-in in our excel. Previous versions earlier to MS-Excel 2010 it was not available with the software but from MS-Excel 2010 onwards it was provided with the software but we have to enable it by ourself to use the feature.
To use the feature, go to file tab and go to options, there you will be provided with the dialog box Excel options in which you have to click on Add-ins tab and go to Manage option. There you will be provided with five options out of which you have to select COM Add-ins option and click on Go button. Screenshot of the process given below:
After clicking on Go button you will be provided with available Add-ins which is already available with your Excel software. Out of which you have to select Microsoft Power Pivot for Excel and click on Ok button. Screenshot of the same provided below:
After clicking on Ok button, a new tab naming Power Pivot will be available in your excel spreadsheet ribbon. Screenshot of the same provided below for reference:
After that, you have select the data range or data which you want to use in Power Pivot. Screenshot of the same given below for reference:
After selecting the data range or data, you have to click on Add to Data Model option of Power Pivot. You can see the screenshot above for reference. After that your data will be migrated to Power Pivot and a new window Power Pivot for Excel will open and from there you can format your data as per your requirement.
